Cross Country Skiing/Snowshoeing

 
 

Rome and the surrounding area offers visitors great opportunity for cross country skiing. From the Nepco Lake Trail, Lake Arrowhead Trail, Powers Bluff and the Sandhill Wildlife Area, there are great places to get out and enjoy nature.

Nepco Lake Area Trail

Located a half of a mile south of Wisconsin Rapids on County Highway Z. The Nepco Lake County Park Ski Touring Trail includes a plowed parking lot, an information board with a map and restrooms. The trail was constructed in 1981. In 2007 Wood County helped the River Cities Nordic Ski Club in Planning an expansion of the ski trail. The ski club grooms and maintains the trail. There is currently 4.4 miles of trail.



 

Tri-Norse Ski Club

The Tri-Norse Ski Club has opened their brand new cross country skiing and snowshoe trails for the season. Check here for constant updates on their hours. 



The club has some equipment available to rent.

Powers Bluff is a winter recreation area located 17 miles northwest of Wisconsin Rapids. This park is home to downhill skiing, cross– country skiing, tubing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Powers Bluff is home to three downhill skiing and snowboarding tails varying from 1,320 to 1,500 feet in length. The estimate vertical drop is 250 feet. Four tube runs are available, with two handle grip tow, which is an ideal system for beginners and snowboarders. There is also a two story stone shelter with concessions and rental equipment. Tubes are provided at no extra cost with the purchase of tub hill ticket. Open seasonally, Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm. Call ahead to verify holiday schedule.
